Throwing from the hump
When throwing objects from the hump, you centre a big piece of clay on the wheel to create many objects out of one large block. It's a technique used to quickly throw similar objects, which are thrown and lifted off the top of the clay body.
Unlike my piece-by-piece approach, I mostly focus on the inside of the objects and refine the outside during the trimming process, once the clay has reached its leather-hard state. For me, throwing from the hump is an exciting way to work through a block of clay in a short period of time, following a specific guideline I set for the pieces in advance. I usually don't aim for the pieces to be exactly the same, but for them to carry the same idea and character. This approach plays against my piece-by-piece approach, where the goals always seem to be the opposite.
